Janet Katherine Nell, 82, of Plymouth, passed away on February 26, 2014 at Lakes Region General Hospital, in Laconia.
Born in Harrisburg, PA, on August 11, 1931, she was the daughter of Adam and Katharine (Klinedinst) Nell. She is survived by her sister, Mary E. (Nell) Lenehan, of Fairfax, VA, and by four nieces and a nephew.
Janet earned a Bachelor’s degree at Westchester State College, of PA in 1953, and a Master’s degree at Dartmouth College in 1974.
Janet was an educator and an athletics coach. She began her career at the high school level in Chambersburg, PA. She moved to New England in 1959 where she taught at Bates College, in Lewiston, ME, before coming to Plymouth State University, in 1967. Janet’s illustrious tenure at PSU spanned two decades. She coached numerous women’s inter-collegiate sports teams and they won several championships. She retired in 1998 as Assistant Professor of Physical Education, and was later named an emeritus faculty member, and a member of the PSU Athletics Hall of Fame.
Janet will be missed and remembered by numerous friends, colleagues, and the students she taught and coached.
